"E Komo Mai, Nou Ka Hale" Welcome to Lokahi Treatment Centers (LTC) informational website. This site was created to give people the opportunity to experience LTC's vision and mission without leaving the comfort of their own home or office. How It All Started
When the crystal methamphetamine epidemic escalated on the Big Island of Hawaii in the late 1990's Dr. Jamal F. Wasan responded by founding Waikoloa Community-Based Substance Abuse Rehabilitation and Recovery Program, now known as Lokahi Treatment Centers (LTC). He quickly learned that drug abuse was not an isolated problem and expanded LTC's services to create an integrated model to address related mental health and anger issues, as well.
This program is unique among other island programs in that it is community-based and "grass-roots" focused. The community-based mission is to maximize the power of the people to advocate for treatment and recovery in order to prevent harmful effects of substance abuse upon families, businesses, and the local communities.
C.A.R.F Accreditation
LTC is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) as follows:
1. Outpatient Treatment: Integrated: AOD/MH (Adults)
2. Outpatient Treatment: Integrated: AOD/MH (Children and Adolescents
3. Outpatient Treatment: Integrated: AOD/MH (Criminal Justice)
Our Vision Statement: We visualize all of Hawaii's adults, adolescents and children to have optimal physical and mental health; where mental health, substance abuse, dependency and addiction are recognized as health issues; and where stigma and other barriers to recovery are eliminated.
Our Mission Statement: We will provide the highest quality mental health and substance abuse treatment services that are culturally appropriate to Big Island adults, adolescents and children. This mission is accomplished through the use of an integrated approach to treatment utilizing both cognitive-behavioral and existential psychotherapy. This allows the individual to formulate a reason for changing and create strategies to experience emotional, cognitive and spiritual growth.

- We believe in strength-based and client centered treatment with linkages and referrals to other community-based resources for continued recovery.
